Take Note

Online counseling is not for everyone. People who have a history of serious mental health issues such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder with psychotic features, suicidal attempts, or personality disorders may not be suited for online counseling. The American Psychiatric Association provides comprehensive guidelines on best practices in telepsychiatry, which can help determine when remote care is appropriate: Telepsychiatry Best Practices.Wikipedia+4American Psychiatric Association+4American Psychiatric Association+4

Eligibility for online counseling sessions for children and teens is based on assessment and specific issues. Parents must provide consent prior to starting treatment; otherwise, clients must be 18 years or older to initiate mental health treatment.
